GREATER Northern Tigers kick off their Country Championship in Cessnock on Saturday under prepared and under sized but confident of upsetting their Newcastle Maitland Region rivals.

The Tigers played Newcastle in a trial at Dudley two Saturdays back and while beaten by a bigger side in wet and raining conditions showed plenty of glimpses of their potential.

And on a firmer and dryer deck they are confident of playing well and maybe even upsetting their opposition.

At least that’s what coach Brad McManus and his squad believe.

Young Gunnedah prop, Lincon Smith, who played for Cessnock Goannas last year, thinks the Tigers are right in the first round game after their promising trial.
